From casual to refined: restaurants at the Kloster Hornbach

Where the beer garden and monastery courtyard come alive

Three restaurants. Three personalities. One calling: the extraordinary. Maybe it’s the flicker of candlelight beneath the ancient, vaulted ceiling. The scent of bread fresh from the oven. The gentle clink of glasses and beer steins on long summer evenings, as the beer garden hums to life.

At the Kloster Hornbach, dining is part of something larger.

Refined at the “Refugium”, unhurried at the “Säulenzimmer”, honest and hearty at the “Klosterschänke” – each of our restaurants in Hornbach tells its own story. And each one tempts you to linger longer than you’d planned. Pull up a chair and become part of the experience.

The “Refugium”: gourmet restaurant in the Southern Palatinate

Some evenings call for a meal that goes beyond the ordinary: ancient walls, understated elegance, and a menu that surprises and delights. At the “Refugium”, our much-loved gourmet restaurant near Saarland, you’ll dine beneath centuries-old vaulted ceilings.
Over four to seven courses, you’ll enjoy a gourmet tasting menu of the highest calibre inspired by local flora and fauna. The dishes that come out of our kitchen are conceived with care and prepared with dedication – honest in expression, refined in execution. With every beautifully plated composition, one thing becomes clear: at our restaurant near Zweibrücken, cooking is not just a craft, but a living art. As in the “Säulenzimmer” restaurant, we serve a set multi-course dinner menu that changes daily.

Opening hours
Daily from 6:00 p.m. (last order at 8:15 p.m.)

The “Säulenzimmer” at the Kloster Hornbach welcomes you with quiet dignity and timeless strength. Begin your day with a generous breakfast here; in the evening, our kitchen serves a multi-course dinner that changes daily.

Beer garden and monastery tavern in Hornbach

Simple dishes, simply delicious. The monastery tavern in Hornbach and its adjoining beer garden in the Palatinate bring together guests, hikers, neighbours, and locals – all drawn by our warm, down-to-earth hospitality.
The cuisine? Authentic, in the best sense. Homemade classics and Palatinate specialities, some hearty, some refined. Pair your choice with a stein of freshly tapped monastery beer or a glass of Palatinate wine.
In summer, take a seat outdoors in the beer garden, surrounded by the ancient walls of the monastery. In winter, the cosy warmth of the parlour draws you in. Either way, this is a place to linger.
