Civil wedding ceremony

Can we have a civil wedding ceremony at the Kloster Hornbach?

Yes, absolutely! The monastery offers two special settings for your vows:

  • The Abbot’s Chapel at the Kloster Hornbach is perfect for smaller weddings with up to 25 guests
  • St. Fabian’s Chapel on the monastery grounds can accommodate up to 90 guests – ideal for a larger ceremony with all your loved ones.

When can civil ceremonies take place?

The Zweibrücken Land registry office offers around 10 dates per month – including weekends – for civil ceremonies at the Kloster Hornbach. The exact dates are determined by the registry office.

How do we book?

That depends on whether you only want to hold the ceremony or both the ceremony and the reception at the Kloster Hornbach.

Wedding ceremony only: Please contact the Zweibrücken Land registry office directly.

Wedding ceremony and reception at the Kloster Hornbach: Our events team will be happy to plan your reception on the monastery grounds, as well as your entire wedding celebration. Just get in touch.

Telephone: +49 06338 9101072 or +49 06338 9101054

E-mail: veranstaltungen@kloster-hornbach.de

When and where do we submit our documents?

You can submit your documents to your local registry office up to six months before your wedding date. Simply let them know that your ceremony will be conducted by the Zweibrücken Land registry office. Your local registry office will tell you which documents you need and forward them on your behalf. You’ll receive the exact address during this process.

Can we decorate the ceremony venue according to our wishes?

Yes, absolutely. The Abbot’s Chapel and St. Fabian’s Chapel already feature atmospheric candlelight. If you’d like to add your own personal touches – whether delicate floral arrangements or romantic details – we can put you in touch with experienced florists who will bring your vision to life.

We’ve chosen a date. What happens next?

Once you’ve settled on your preferred date, just let us know. We’ll check availability and reserve the right space for you, so you can focus on what really matters: your big moment.

Church wedding

Where can we have a church wedding?

You can choose from three churches:

  • St. Fabian’s Chapel on our monastery grounds
  • The Protestant monastery church next to our hotel
  • The Catholic Church of St. Pirmin on the outskirts of Hornbach, a 10–15-minute walk away

Each has its own distinct atmosphere. We would be happy to help you find the right fit.

Who do we contact to book a church wedding?

If you’re planning a church ceremony only, please contact the respective parish office directly.
If you would also like to hold a reception or wedding celebration at the Kloster Hornbach, our events team is here to help:

Julia Hanselmann-Roos and Lara Diener
Telephone: +49 06338 91010 56 or +49 06338 91010 54
E-mail: veranstaltungen@kloster-hornbach.de

Are there clergy on site, or can we choose our own?

  • For Protestant ceremonies, we’re happy to connect you with the Protestant parish office in Hornbach. If you’d prefer your own minister, we recommend arranging this with the local parish office in advance.
  • For Catholic ceremonies, we recommend bringing your own priest. We can help with local contacts; however, it has become increasingly difficult to find a local Catholic priest available for wedding ceremonies.

Can we decorate the church according to our wishes?

Yes, of course. You’re welcome to bring your own decorations, or our events team can assist. We’re happy to put you in touch with experienced florists who can bring your ideas to life.

What are the costs?

Church ceremony fees are arranged directly with the relevant parish office – please contact them for details. If you choose St. Fabian’s Chapel, a hire fee of €250.00 applies.

To keep everything running smoothly, we recommend booking late-night hours in advance. Fancy extending the party into the small hours on the night? In that case, “same-day booking” rates will apply. All charges are based on the number of guests agreed in your banquet contract.

Who takes care of decorating the ballroom?

For a personalised look, we recommend working with a florist – we’re happy to put you in touch with trusted partners. If you’d like our team to help with decorations, we charge €59.00 per hour per member of staff. Decorations are usually set up on the wedding day. However, if bookings allow, this can also be done the day before.

What catering costs should we expect? Do you offer wedding packages?

Based on experience from previous weddings, the average spend on food and drinks comes to around €140.00 per person, all inclusive. Every wedding is different, so we don’t offer fixed packages. Instead, we tailor everything to your wishes – meaning you only pay for what you want.

Where can our guests stay?

We can reserve up to 12 rooms at the Kloster Hornbach for wedding guests.

We can also reach out to nearby holiday apartments, all within easy walking distance.

Tip: If you want your friends and family all together under one roof – that’s the Lösch experience.

What about music, dancing, and late-night hours?

  • You can pipe your own playlists through our built-in sound system via phone, laptop, or tablet.
  • DJs and live bands have plenty of space in either the “HochZeit” room (with dance floor in the foyer) or the “DenkMal” room (dance floor within the room).

There are guest rooms directly above the event spaces, so we recommend booking these for your party. That way, you can celebrate as late and as loudly as you like without disturbing other guests. You’re welcome to celebrate into the early hours. From midnight, a late-night surcharge applies in line with our terms and conditions.

Where can our guests park?

Parking is available directly on the monastery grounds, across the street, and behind the building at Hauptstraße 30. Further spaces can be found around the monastery.

We’ve chosen the Kloster Hornbach as our wedding venue. What next?

Once you’ve decided on the Kloster Hornbach, you will receive a reservation confirmation and a banquet contract outlining all the agreed details.

  • Please return the signed agreement to us within two weeks.
  • To secure your booking, we require a 30% deposit of the estimated total.
  • Detailed planning takes place four to twelve weeks before the wedding, or earlier if desired.

If you’d like to use any of our recommended external suppliers, we’ll coordinate their visits on your behalf. Please remember to book external suppliers as early as possible.

What are the payment terms?

After the celebration, you’ll receive an invoice by post. Payment is due within 10 days. Additional payments on account are welcome at any time.

Do you offer tours of the venue?

We’d love to show you around! Just contact us to arrange a convenient time, and we’ll give you a full tour of our properties.

What happens if we have to cancel?

  • Cancellation is free of charge up to 180 days before the event.
  • After that, the cancellation conditions listed in our General Terms and Conditions apply.

We recommend taking out weddinginsurance; HanseMerkur is one possible provider.

Is the Kloster Hornbach a suitable venue for elderly guests and families?

Absolutely. Both the “HochZeit” hall and the “DenkMal” room are accessible by lift. A separate nappy-changing room and a children’s toilet are available.

Childcare:

  • Childcare is required for groups of six or more children (aged 2–12).
  • For 15 or more children, two carers must be present.
  • Childcare can be arranged by the Kloster Hornbach: from €20.00 per hour per carer (subject to availability).

Can we bring our own wine or wedding cake?

Of course. The following corkage and plating fees apply:

  • Wine and sparkling wine: €29.50 per bottle
  • Champagne: €39.50 per bottle
  • Wedding cake: €4.50 per person, plus €98.00 for cutting and presentation
  • Additional cake: €15.00 per cake

Are sparklers allowed?

Unfortunately, not. All rooms are fitted with smoke detectors linked directly to the fire service. If an alarm is triggered through negligence, the costs fall to the person responsible – or, failing that, the host.
